Couple Questions on the Pentax 67 mark II

Just got this camera the other day with the waist level finder so I'm going to be shooting manual.

1) When shooting manual to set the shutter speed I just move the left knob to where the red triangle is?

But I noticed something weird. When, for example, I move the shutter speed to 500, and then move the little lever up or down next to the red triangle right next to the shutter speed, the display shows 350 or 750. So does the little level next to the shutter speed fine tunes the shutter speed?

If I set the shutter knob to 125 and move the lever up or down, the display shows 90 or 180.

I downloaded the manual but it doesn't state anything about what I wrote above.

Here are your answers:

1) Correct, the red triangle is the shutter speed indicator.

2) The lever beside the red triangle is for the ISO setting. It's labelled "ISO" underneath the lever, note you need to press the button below to change the setting. When you move the lever up/down you are increasing/decreasing the ISO, which will show in the LCD window. Check page 20 in you manual for the ISO setting.

Also note since you are not using the AE metered prism, I'm not sure how the ISO lever functions. I strongly suggest you try out the 67ii first with the AE meter prism, to work out all the bugs.

Phil.

I have two 67ii's and there is something here that not a lot of people know... There used to be a set of "standard" modifications that Pentax could do to the camera. One of these involved introducing a setting so that you can adjust the shutter speed in half stop increments. It works exactly as you say - set the shutter speed on the dial in the usual way, then shift the speed up or down half a stop with the use of that little slider.

Looks like you struck gold and got one of the bodies with that modification!

I had both of mine done and found it very useful, especially when shooting trains in low light, with low ISO film - where the ability to juggle the shutter speed / aperture equation in small increments was helpful.

Fascinating!
So the default Av/Tv value for the 67II is 1 stop increments, as opposed to 0.5 for the original 6x7 / 67?
This is the first time I have read of a mod for the 67II allowing switching to 0.5 stops. Was there a choice in the size of the stops e.g. from 0.5, or was 0.3 also offered for the 67II?

Sorry! This mod relates to behaviour in manual mode. The increments in the AE modes were always smaller, by default.

Ah-so! Thanks for the clarification. It makes sense.

Maybe this helps. It's a thread from ten years ago dealing with this exact subject (which I also took part in!) Worth a read...
