MF in the photo store today

Hi,

Ok. I got a free weekend here. My wife is off at a gourd craft show with finished stuff (as opposed to the blank gourds). They have one up in the NC mountains this weekend. She took out granddaughter along, so I wasn't needed. Darn!

I need a backpack bag that will hold some P 645 stuff. The idea is easier to carry for lighthouse shooting as some of these are pretty remote. Ocracoke, Old Baldy and Cape Lookout. It'd be better to haul a backpack than a shoulder bag. This means, off to the camera store in Raleigh. And, no one to restrain, er, I mean, go with me and keep me company.

So, I go in and browse. Left my gear in the truck. This place always looks like the entire First Infantry Division has just left, and they came in flipping grenades to boot. Easier to look without carrying more stuff. So, I find a few bags and now need to evaluate for use with P645 stuff.

The boss cleans me off some counter space and I unload my bag. Staff comes over thinking I want to trade or sell. Um. No. Then, it dawns on everyone that this is 645 stuff. And, then it dawns on them it's digital, not film. That drew even more interest.

I wound up shooting some test shots with some lenses they had in the MF section so they could see how those were working. It didn't take me long to zero in on a bag, but I was there for hours. Ah. The old school camera store. Sort of like these forums, actually.

But, they didn't have an P645 stuff I wanted. I'm actually pretty well set up now, I think. Until I find something I haven't thought of yet.

Hi,

Aw, man! They cleared both cards for me after they offloaded. I figured they would still be there. At least on the second card. Not that there was anything special. They mostly shot the same set of shelves.

Hi,

I got a nice thank you note email from one of the sales staff this morning. She was the one who was really liking shooting with the 645D. I think she is going to wind up joining us.

I managed to fit everything in the new backpack. I can choose to leave the A* 300/4 out to save weight or maybe put the 120 macro in once it gets here (there isn't room to put it in there too). I found two small holes for the 1.4x and 2x TCs. I spent some time this afternoon looking at how the 200/4 on the 1.4x TC does compared to the A* 300/4. It works pretty good.

I've been camping on Ocracoke Island a couple times. You should be able to get some great shots of the lighthouse during the day, at dusk, and at night from inside the village. The village is a really neat place to wander around in during the day, especially the shady lanes off the main road. There are lodgings in town of course, but if you decide to camp you have to bring your own shade. The campground doesn't have any trees. I remember sitting at night on some wooden stairs that went up and over the dunes, and watching the moon rise out of the Atlantic. Magical!

It's always "fun" figuring out what stays and goes 😞. Would love to see some results with the Rear Converter 2X. Trying to decide if one should be added to the kit.

Thanks,
barondla

With the 645N, I once took pictures with this 2X TC and my copy of the A 200 mm f/4 : TOTAL DISASTER. It's true the A 200 mm was dismal but I think the 2X TC didn't help either. If you find one you can try before buying, better do it ...
