When looking at Pentax medium format equipment in March and April of this year, one used dealer had over 60 lenses. A few days ago they had approximately 10. Used lenses also seem in short supply at other dealers. No idea how many are being used with film vs digital, but medium format seems to be growing briskly.

The prices have been coming down thanks to Fuji so I think more people are getting into it now. I bought a 645Z and four used lenses in July.

Seems to be lots of used Pentax lenses on the market now and the prices are so low, maybe lots of people jumping to Fuji and dumping Pentax.

One thing I noticed looking at used lenses from B&H, KEH, Ebay and here is the lots of the lenses are missing lens hoods.

It would seem a nonsense, I don't know who can buy lenses for medium/large format, when the DSLRs/Mirrorless continue to produce models with millions of megapixels,
I think that, large format lenses I don't think they can be mounted on Sony or Fuji, then I think that there is a growing market of collectors, or a reapproach to film by many people/photographers,
to find and experience the meaning and magic as well as the possibilities offered by paper photography.

There are dumb adapters for lots of old M/L format glass that can go on plenty of M/L bodies.The Fuji Bodies have a crop mode too,so FF lenses can go onto them and some adapters are AF.

There are adapters for 35mm lenses to the Fujifilm e.a. mirrorless medium frame bodies. Some lenses that were designed for 36x24mm turned out to have image circles that cover 44x33mm. Only some, mind you, not all.

But it would not justify the surge in sales, otherwise who buys mirrorless?

The digital medium format market could double in size and it still would be tiny compared to the full frame and crop sensor markets (APS-C plus mFT). My guess though is that with Fuji's medium format camera, some are shooting with it with an adapter and Pentax or other older lenses.

The new medium format lenses are pretty pricey, even if the bodies have dropped in price quite a bit.

MF is part of the general film trend. You want proper MF film photos on your Instagram.

All you have to do is go to your local film lab and see the number of 120 rolls of film being brought in/picked up.

A lot of people are shooing medium format film here and with that comes the lens purchases.

Maybe I should dust my Pentax 67 II and give it a run. I have about 40 rolls of 120-size Ektar 100 frozen in my cellar. Probably my old CR123 batteries have wasted so I would need to replace them. We have a good photofinisher in Montreal and they can scan the negatives and give you a medium-resolution digital copy too. It takes 10 days to see your results (mail-in and mail-out plus handling). I have an awesome 67 M 55 mm f/4 late-model, an M 75 mm f/2.8, the M 105 mm f/2.4, the Macro 100 mm f/4, an M 165 mm f/2.8, the M 200 mm f/4 and the M* 300 mm f/4 plus the M 55-100 mm f/4.5 zoom. A little exercise would do them a world of good.

Great equipment! Would love to see a comparison between 67 & 645Z. You should shoot the 67 and use up some of that film.

In reality, the 645Z gives so much more predictable images, I almost don't want to return to the 67 II. Film produces low contrast images with sometimes washed out colors and you're at the mercy of the photofinisher. In digital, I totally control the final product (tonality, contrast, color, etc). Plus my 67 lens arsenal all works on my 645Z. It took me many years to really appreciate digital imaging after 40 years of silver halide photography but I hesitate to go back. In the Lens Review section, Pentax 67 lenses, I have 2 film-based pictures taken with the 67 II and the M* 300 mm f/4 and 2 images made with the 645Z more recently. The digital images are much sharper.

P.S. Yes I should use up this remnant of my film stock. The 67 II body would benefit from some exercise too.

A quick worldwide eBay search just now revealed 14 645D bodies and 10 secondhand 645Z bodies. I don't think that’s any sign that people are dumping Pentax MF digital for Fuji in great numbers, especially not given the present circumstances.

Your old 67II is worth a lot on the used market now, close in value to the 645D. Give it a couple more years and it'll pass your 645Z.

The new Ektachrome 100 works nicely with the 67II & AE prism & matrix metering.
