Why not buy two quick release plates? The camera is prepared for two - one on the bottom and one on the side. A lighter and neater solution.

RRS even made these custom-fit plates for the 645D/Z (if you can still find them): https://www.reallyrightstuff.com/b645z-plates

Will they work on the 645D? What is the other part I need to mount it on? Thanks for sharing this

Yes they will fit both digital 645 models. Using the RRS on my 645Z. There have been 2 versions of the quick release plates. Older ones were curved on the front and flat on the rear. Plates that are on the Really Right Stuff website currently, are rounded front and rear. Either style works and both have anti rotation pins to keep the camera where it's aimed. I have the older version. Agree it is one of the best 645D/Z features.
Thanks,
barondla

Also possible is one of these, if the handle can be found. Somewhere on this sub forum are several messages on the subject. (The photo was collected by me; I don't think I have a photo of my version.)

It works really well for a two handed grip and also to off camera mount a flash. makes a really nice flash bracket.

it was made originally by Stiz and sold in a medium format large square platform and version as well as a 35mm version long skinny plarform. It was made in a QD style such as mine and also in a version that had a non removable platform.
It was also sold under the Vivitar brand, some the same and some with a slightly different QD style.

OK, here is mine from a top view showing a name that may also be fruitful fo searching: Samigon. Also, I have adapted mine to connect to Manfrotto 200PL plates.
