Recommend SD Card for 645D

I am trying to get the fastest way to shoot and review images on the D. I know its slow but if there is a way to make it even a little faster. What is the Max size SD card ex 128GB ?
Any other suggestions are appreciated , Thanks

Hello, Pentax 645D uses SD and SDHC cards which means 32GB is the largest card that can be used in the camera.

Cards with 64gb or bigger cannot be recognized or giving an error. On some occasion bigger cards can be recognized but they slow down the camera.

I use 32gb card with writing speed of 90mb/s.

I donít think that is accurate. With later firmware releases the 645D can use SDXC cards to get greater capacity. See here:

From memory there's a thread somewhere suggesting the fastest way to review on the D is to use two cards. Set the camera to shoot raw on one and jpeg on the other, select the jpeg card for the review.

I doubt 'faster' cards will have much impact as the cameras CCD processing is probably the bottleneck.

Hi,

I am using 32 GB SanDisk Ultra 40 MB/s cards. Shooting Raw only with the latest firmware I messed around one day and figured out there was no point in using faster cards. I have faster 16 GB cards for other cameras and so had those to try as far as timing shot writing Raw to both cards. So, I haven't bought anything else for my 645D. And, 32 GB is more than I will ever need as far as capacity goes.

Edit: I first tried 150 MB/s cards, then 90 MB/s cards then decided to just stick with the 40 MB/s cards the 645D came with. I had read somewhere that the unit was faster, but I then figured I was getting the D confused with the Z....

You can use cards with larger capacity and mine did allow the use of SDXC before I traded it in for the Z. There is no point getting a faster card than which the camera can actually access it at.

Hi,

You use the SD2 button on the top of the camera, right hand side. That selects the SD2 card. And, of course, the SD1 button selects the SD1 card.

PEF files contain embedded jpegs for thumbnail use, and as far as I know they are white balanced the same as the jpegs stored separately. This implies that one could get a review image from either card in this configuration.

The 'Disp - SD1/SD2' button on the back selects the card from where images are displayed when you press the 'play' button - I'd assume the same button would switch which card the review would use?
