Pentax 6x7 Advance Issue. HELP!!

Hello, new to the forum and just looking for help.

I just bought a 6x7 (non mlu) and I tried loading film and it started fine until it encountered some resistance and the lever slips. The film doesn't advance and it has a really nasty sound. I know the camera works fine because when I trick the camera into thinking it has film it shoots without a problem, its only when I introduce film into it.

I just placed a brand new battery so that isn't the issue.

Can anyone tell me what it might be?

That happens to mine when I forget to engage the locks on the bottom of the film rolls. I am sure there is a name for them, on the bottom of the camera you twist them and push up. Congrats on the new cam!

The problem is that they are engaged before I start winding.

And thanks. I just want it to work so I can shoot it.
