Pentax 67 105mm f/2.4 Auto Manual Switch

I received a copy of the Pentax 67 105mm f/2.4 lens in the mail which had been unfortunately padded with those air cushions. Every last cushion had failed and the lens was banging around the box from one corner of the world to another.

Thankfully the lens came with a filter attached because that end took some damage. My question remains on the Auto/Manual switch which appears and behaves unlike others I've come across (although this is my first Pentax 67 lens).

It looks too raised and requires "rocking" to lock it in Manual.

Is this behaviour normal or abnormal?

Absolutely normal on older Takumar or early SMC P67 models.

I've had that in the past - fortunately not all of them failed, but I was worried. It was a 645 300mm lens, so heavy and huge. But it was fine.

I can confirm that Richard is right, the "manual" detent is spring loaded and the switch appears "tilted" when set to "manual" on takumar-era 6x7 lenses.
