More versions of old 645 FA lenses ?

Hi,

I was on the RICOH japan site: Lens list for Medium-format Digital single-lens reflex camera / Lens lineup/ Lenses / Products | RICOH IMAGING

According to this site it seems that the FA* 645 300mm F4 and the FA 645 150-300mm have the SP Coating to repel dirt and fingerprints from the front lens...how is possible considering that these lenses are old designs and the SP coating is a more recent technology?

If you take a look at the APS-C SMC *versions you will notice that they also have the SP coating. I guess it has to do with being a star lens.

It's all the same lens versions.

SP coating is dated back to 2007, so it's possible lenses got SP coating from then on.

Ok, this could be possible but why only these two 645 lenses?

Wikipedia isn't the source, it's just the output of several sources (brochures, lens database, pricelists):

To answer the literal question: If a lens assembly is still in production, the coatings can be changed at any time. Better coatings improve transmission and reduce the intensity of Boys points when pointing near a bright light. Finger print suppression is also helpful.

Modern coatings are stacks of layers only wavelengths thick, so they do not affect the power of the optics to bend light.

For enough money, one can have coatings stripped and replaced with better ones.
