Hey William & Mardi.
I said I would come back with the results of my tethering experience. It took me a bit as some other things got in the way, but I connected everything up turned on Image Transmitter 2, turned on the camera, connected to the camera from my laptop and everything worked like a charm. All the functions of Image Transmitter 2 worked, saving images to my laptop hard drive, and other than pointing the camera I could run everything from my laptop. I like it when a plan comes together the first time!
Having anticipated a communication problem I ordered the following from Tether Tools:
Tether Boost Pro USB 3.0 Core Controller (SKU: TBPRO-BLK) $59.99 US
16' USB 3.0 Active Extension Cable (SKU CU3017) $48.95 US
I had also ordered a right angle short (12") "patch/drop" cable for the camera with a right angle Micro-B end. Unfortunately Pentax did not put the USB 3 cable socket in the body in the correct orientation for this cable, so instead of coming out of the camera and going straight down, it hung straight up

.Not what I was looking for, (after I spoke with them Tether Tools took that recommendation for Pentax off their site) so I simply used a short USB3 cable that came with an external hard drive (sticks straight out) but works.
I ordered the "Active" extension cable rather than just an extension cable because I may want to go beyond 16 feet, which requires an Active Extension Cable. Following are the potential configurations.
16' = TetherBoost Pro + 16' USB Extension Cable
32' = 16' Active Extension Cable + TetherBoost Pro + 16' USB Extension Cable
48' = 16' Active Extension Cable + TetherBoost Pro + 16' Active Extension Cable + 16' USB Extension Cable
64' = TetherBoost Pro + 16' Active Extension Cable + 16' Active Extension Cable + TetherBoost Pro + 16' Active Extension Cable + 16' USB Extension Cable
For the difference in price and issues of reliability, I personally would only use Active Extension Cables rather than straight USB 3.0 Extensions (other than the short drop cable off the camera).
If you have any other questions let me know.
Murray
