645N ii Focus Screen and Eye Cup Questions

I just bought a 645N ii and the small eye cup it came with is not giving keeping enough ambient light from getting in the way of composition. I have a bigger eye cup on my 645 yet it just doesnt seem to unscrew. Two questions: are they transferable and if so, how do I remove the larger cup from the 645.

I love the split image/micro prism focusing screen on the 645 and went to flip them, but the tab on the 645N ii is in a different location, so they are not interspersable. Is a similar screen made for the 645N ii? I'm using a combination of MF and AF lenses with the camera, so that screen in the 645 is just such a dream to use.

Any guidance is most appreciated.

While I can't answer the eyecup questions, the focusing screens are definitely not compatible. For manual focusing aids, you will need the AA-82 or AB-82 and these are unfortunately much less common and much more expensive (partly because they also fit the 645D/Z). I think the going rate is US$200 or more.

You can get 3rd party split image focusing screens on ebay for about US$40 if you look. They are quite grainy and dark, but will work for lenses F4 and faster (but preferably F2.8 or faster to avoid the split image blacking out).

Based on the above, my guess is the eye cup may not be compatible, but you never know!

Look at page 27 in the owner's manual. It shows how you should be able to unscrew the eyecup. You may need to carefully protect the viewfinder eyepiece then spray WD-40 to loosen the ring.

I am 99% certain the same larger eye cup was used on the 645, 645N, and 645Nii.

Thanks for that tip.......I will read the manual you linked me too and see about getting off.

I don't want to damage anything

The AB-82 is the split image focusing screen for the 645N / 645NII cameras. I have an extra I can sell within the USA.
