A* 645 600/5.6 Star Shots?

Hey folks!

I'm thinking of picking up a copy of this old classic paired with my K-1, but it's clearly a large investment. I'm curious if there are any forum members with this lens who have or would be willing to take some star pictures?

I'm curious how the stars look wide open and at f/8. No special tracking mount needed, I can get a sense even with streaked stars.

Cheers!

With or without the 645 1.4x converter?

Either, I suppose

Edit: If you are taking shots, I'd prefer without, but if you already have shots with 1.4x I'd be happy to see them.

I'll shoot something for you, without the 1.4x. You may have to wait a while though... We're having a spell of cloudy weather just now.

Thank you, kindly! Same here on cloudy weather, though I was able to get a shot of the lunar eclipse with my A* 645 300/4. That's another 645 lens that I've found to be wonderful on my K-1.

Would you consider a SMC Pentax-M* 67 400mm F4 ED [IF] Reviews - 67 Telephoto Primes - Pentax Lens Reviews & Lens Database?

I have one with both matched 1.4 and 2.0 converters and the uber rare drop in polarizing filter.

This fellow - Nebhunter NGC7000.jpg photo - ikkaisei photos at pbase.com - uses the M* 400mm f4 for astrophotography.

Same fellow, 55 minute exposure - https://pbase.com/pentax67/image/140156626

Any chance of improved weather on the horizon?
Yes, I have - it's certainly an option. I think I'd prefer the 600mm, as I could get by fine with my 300mm F/4 for that focal length zone. Those are some great pictures though!

That's fantastic detail! Were you using a tracking mount, or was it just short shutter time? Was that shot wide open or stopped down a click or two?

thanks. just a regular non-tracked shot with fast shutter (1/160th), probably stopped down one click to to 6.7 because wide open is weak

Thanks, Mike. I tried to get some moon shots with my 645 300 A* and they all ended up blurry. It was really low though, so maybe the atmosphere was messing it up.
