How is the Image quality from Pentax 67 lenses to P 645Z

I see the excellent reviews on the 67 lenses. Besides the adaptor needed how is the IQ vs the 645 Lenses on Z
Also, Can I set the Z on A priority with the 67 lenses? Thank you
Which 67 lenses would you say have the Best IQ

P67 lenses can be used in Aperture priority auto-exposure mode with the 645Z. Only focussing remains manual and the EXIF may be erroneous.

I have 13 P67 lenses and all perform admirably on the 645Z. There is a "cold" (i.e. slightly blueish) color cast in all these optics but they produce remarkably "true-to-life" colors in the end.

The most impressive P67 lenses up to now are the P67 75 mm f/2.8 and the P67 165 mm f/2.8 prime optics. The P67 55-100 mm f/4.5 zoom is one of the best lenses around.

P67 55-100 mm f/4.5

P67 75 mm f/2.8

P67 165 mm f/2.8

Notably, let's not forget the late 55 mm f/4, the 100 mm f/4 MACRO, the late 105 mm f/2.4, the late 200 mm f/4 and the M* 300 mm f/4. All are more than excellent. I also have the 45 mm f/4 (very good), the 90 mm f/2.8 (very good) and the P67 90-180 mm f/4.5 (also very good) and the 500 mm f/5.6 (gigantic but very good). Only the 135 mm f/4 macro was ever a little weak.

I would be leery of generalizing. There is a lot of variation in those lenses. Iused to use them occasionally on K mount bodies, but cannot say they were really special. On a 645 one supposes hey are okay, but they were never optimized for that format.

My experience with P67 lenses used on my 645Z has always been outstanding. I even called P67 lenses the "Major Leagues" of medium-format optics, so ...

P67 500 mm f/5.6

P67 75 mm f/2.8

P67 75 mm f/2.8

P67 105 mm f/2.4

P67 45 mm f/4

P67 late 200 mm f/4

P67 90-180 mm f/4.5

P67 100 mm f/4 MACRO

FWIW, I never felt like the 67 lenses performed any better than the 645 lenses on my Z.

Beautiful colors. I agree with you about the 645 Lenses. I just need to find either a custom profile or how to bring out the Best Colors that the Z provides. Thank you

Of course, 645 lenses are easier to use, particularly the Autofocus FA series. They are lighter and mostly easier to carry except for the P67 75 and 165 f/2.8. 645 lenses render a little "warmer" (yellowish) tone.

I even use FA 645 lenses on K-mount DSLRs. Here a K3 III + 645 FA* 300 mm f/4, on tripod with the "LANDSCAPE" color palette. I never tried P67 lenses on a K-mount DSLR, though. Overkill !!

If the question is whether any P67 lenses actually offer any benefit over 645 lenses when used on a 645Z, my own experience indicates:

- The P67 75mm f2.8AL is superb and better than the best 645 75mm offerings
- The P67 300mm EDIF is superb and better than the best 645 300mm offerings
- The P67 400mm EDIF is very good (can't compare it directly with 645 alternatives)
- The late series P67 55mm f4 is very good and has different strengths to the 645 55mm DFA
- The P67 55-100mm zoom lens is very good - I personally think it's better than the P645 zooms in a similar range, but it is beaten by the best 645 primes in that range (by a narrow margin)

Other P67 lenses are good but none of them IMO actually beat the 645 alternatives... Though there are differences in 'character' - which is hard to quantify.

YMMV

Any particular reason why you always post in bold font?
Do you assume your post are more worthy of standing out from all the others?

My eyesight is becoming bad, worse even because of my recent health scare. Taking pictures has been the "pleasure of my life", I hope I don't lose my eyesight too soon. Sorry if my "bold" characters trigger you. Thank you for your "empathy" !

Best Regards

Hi,

In the FWIW department, I never noticed the bold. Oh, I see it, but it didn't register as something to think about. Actually, it makes it easier to read what you write along with your photos. Normal font gets rather lost in the presence of photos. I suppose we can now think of photos as being Bold.

Sorry to hear about your eyesight. That's bad always, but extra bad for a photographer.

Sorry if I came across as snarky. No hard feelings.
