I have spoken with some repair folks and the consensus is that this is a problem and someone will need to go in and fix it. The gotcha is that the rear group is moving independent of the front group.
It'd be nice if there was a fairly easy way to evaluate sharpness as the element group shifts position. But the cost to fix it should be less than the cost of the time to test it. Most of us want to take pics, not spend time quantifying whether an obvious problem actually impacts sharpness. And since I don't have another 55mm to compare, I have no reference.
Most of my photography is hiking up on mountains. I'm not sure how long I'll be lugging the 67 and tripod for miles and miles (my back says "not much longer, doofus!") but when I do, this isn't the type of detail I want to worry about.
Btw, I did open a case with Pentax Colorado and they never replied
Thanks to everyone who looked, even if you could only shrug.
