Pentax 67 and 300mm lens

Dear Friends!

Do anybody has experience with taking pictures with 300/4 SMC Takumar lens?

I canīt make sharp picture , even using MLU, F11 (F16) aperture, Manfrotto 055 PRO tripod.

Those pictures made uder low light (shutter time about 1s) are
quite sharp.

I hope it is not due to lens is not shapr, I think it is because of that 300/4 doesnīt have tripod collar.

The 055 tripod is pretty light for that camera and lens.

Go over to the Medium Format forum on photo.net..On the right hand side of the page go down to the Pentax 67 Lenses sub-forum..You will find many threads on the Takumar 300mm f4 lens..As I recall, the main problem with that lens is its lack of a tripod mount..Any kind of homemade mount that clamps around the body of the lens is going to help, as then one can use a Bogen 359 Long Lens Support on the camera, and mount the lens to the tripod..Which will make things much steadier..The Takumar 300mm f4 lens is a lot of weight, 1425g, to be hanging out off of the lens mount of the camera unsupported..

Actually the 300 Takumar is fairly sharp, it just takes a large tripod and shooting in the 1 second or slower range or 1/125 and faster range. This lens is very prone to shutter or mirror vib. I shoot mine with either 50 speed or 400 speed film to get it to the shutter speeds where it does well. This is where having 2 bodies comes in handy.

I will try Velvia-50 and polarizer + 3stop ND. May be it will help me to get over critical
shutter speeds.

Try this for mounting long lenses without tripod collars:

I agree with Wheatfield, the 055 is not enough of a tripod for 67+300mm

Yes, I'll second that. A friend had one. He couldn't get a sharp shot to save his life. When it is cantilevered off the camera, some deflection is going on or something. The lens needs support. We gave that a try and it helped. You'll notice the newer 300mm now has tripod support on the lens.

300mm

I had both the P645 and P67 300/4 for a couple of months. I would judge the 645 to the 67 lens as follows on a 10 point scale: f4 9 to 7, f5.6 9.5 to 8, f8 9.5 to 9, f11 and smaller were the same.
