Help with a new -old 645

Hi there

I just bought a 645 off eBAY. My first time with a MF camera.
I am trying to undestand how it works and followed the instructions to test the shutter without film by removing the back. However, nothing happens.

How does one test the shutter/mirror mechanism without the film back installed.

Thank you in advance
Nick

I think I have read some where that the original 645 do not fire without the back installed. Not really sure....

Thanks for your replies....
New batteries are in place.

The instruction manual indicates that the shutter will fire without the back with certain settings. I used those settings and nothing. I have not tried with the back on and film loaded. Film arrives tommorow so I will learn soon.

Thanks
Nick

The shutter will only fire with film or with a back plastic cap for that special use.

It does work without film

Hi all

I returned the camera cited above. It did not work. I did get another on eBAY and It turns out that the camera does fire without film or a back inserted. So a way to test is to remove the back, set the dial to S and fire.
