Using 67II with off camera lighting

I have a shoot coming up in a few weeks where I'll be using strobes with my 67II for the first time. I have always been an available light photographer. Never used off camera lighting and I never thought I would.

The shoot is of a band. We're doing it in this hip looking lounge space with no windows. I have no idea where to start when it comes to getting the exposure right with strobes. I'll have 2 strobes in softboxes triggered by an IR slave. My plan is to have a DSLR on hand to get lighting right before I start shooting film.

Am I really limited to 1/30?? I can't find a lot of info on this. The 67II manual is pretty ambiguous. Anyone care to give me a quick primer?

Yes the X sync speed is 1/30sec. There is a very large opening the shutter has to cover.

If you will be using flash and like a faster sync speed you can look into getting the LS lenses which has a leaf shutter and can sync at higher speeds

So I'll have to use a tripod for the whole shoot.... great.

Maybe not. It depends on how much of the total light is from the strobe vs whatever ambient light is present. If there is very little ambient light the flash duration is your effective shutter speed which will work out to be a lot faster than 1/30sec.
I have handheld the 67 at 1/30 in studio with very powerful strobes (1000ws per head) and there were no camera movement.
You need to experiment to see if it will work in your environment.
