If it is optically as good as the primes, why not, apart from perhaps a stubborn insistence on primes deeply rooted in old beliefs.
The Pentax 67 55-110 and 90-180 are arguably as good as the corresponding primes also. I think one needs to consider carefully this issue. For myself, I feel more comfortable using primes...it slows things down and requires me to put more thought and effort into the composition, which is of greater benefit than the convenience of the zoom. But everyone is different.
