Oh, yeah that's the special P67 for commemorating some train. There was one for sale a few weeks ago at the local store, for something like US$2k, only a bit more expensive than a new P67. IIRC, it has all the custom functions built in. I think its kinda ugly I want an orange P67II. Or a dark blue one. Maybe someone can disassemble it and repaint it

There is no 6x7 sensor, 645 is the maximum size available on the market at the moment.

Most medium format systems are cropped frame, the Pentax 645D will very likely be cropped as well as Pentax called the upcomming 55mm 645 a "standard" lens.

Anyway a "cropped" medium format can still be bigger sensor than so-called "Full Frame".

67D ? Maybe in 2020...

Regards,
Guillaume

I wonder if it wouldn't be possible to use 2 645 crop sensors and do some in camera stitching?
A coded mask over each sensor and then some in camera firmware wizardry could open up some amazing possibilities.

I've been begging for a 67D for ages now. The 67 was always the trump card for Pentax over Canikon

Well, as I said, it's even likely that the 645D won't be a true 645 format.

As mentionned in another thread of this section, it will be more likely slightly above the 35mm format.

So the 645D may be the answer to the competition's Full Frame lineup ! Since going FF requires anyway to renew the lens lineup (old film lenses are often subject to heavy vigneting), proposing a "new" FF mount in the form the "old" medium format autofocus mount would be so Pentax like

And the pro will have a true upgrade path for when Full Frame will not be pro enough with Pentax releasing bigger an bigger sensor camera...

FF is the APSC of Medium Format

It is twice the size if 35mmFF which is not slight in my book.....

I was refering to this thread :

link

I do not trust at 100% with those speculations, but the only official info we have on the 645D is the upcoming 55mm lens will marketed as a "normal lens", so a 1.5 crop hypothesis is not stupid.

645 format at 1.5 crop makes 4X3 sensor, to be compared with the 3.6X2.4 of Full Frame. That a little less than 50% more in area and quite similar field of view.

The only true 645 back (the P65+ from Phase One) cost an arm, a leg and a kidney. I seriously doubt that Pentax would go that road for their medium format. On the other end, making a "Full Frame" equivalent SLR with a medium format mount to compete with the D3x and the 3DsmkIII, would be intelligent.

Regards,
Guillaume

Oh? Not the way you're expecting it. There is actually larger. Scroll down and see the sensor sizes on this camera.

RED has made a hudge annoucment with their system, but the biggest cameras are still vapowares.

The only camera available at the moment is the RedOne.

It's sensor size is more or less the classic movie 35mm : 24.4mm x 13.7mm (Movie cameras have the largest part of the picture on the width of the film strip, while classic 35mm SLR do the contrary)

The Redcameras that are vailable are quite reputed, but the annoucement they made was pretentious. For technical reasons the making of hudge sensor will be very difficult: the larger the sensor, the more defects there will have, if you have 1 defect per wafer (sililium slice on which are engraved the sensors / chips) and make fewer elements per wafer (because the sensor is much bigger) That why the price of a sensor is not proportional to its surface.

Aniway, I'm conviced that 6x7 sensors will comme some day, but it's mor like in 10 years than in 2. BTW the P65 from phase one makes 60 million pixels, a 6x7 sensor why the same density would make around 90 million pixels, you can make a print of 1m x 0.64m at 300ppi with that resolution....

It is quite stupid in fact
The FF 645 standard lens is the 75mm. If the 55mm is the new standard lens it gives a crop factor of 1.3. Hence, 2X FF sized sensor.
Which is in accordance with what Pentax have been saying all the time...

I'd say more than vaporware. They only delayed release due to the down economy. They stopped paying overtime to get it out for the end of this year and now should be at the start of next year. In my book that is far beyond vaporware when you are ready to release on the market.
