What if 645D will shoot HD video?

What consequences will be to the pro/semi pro DLSR industry if 645D will shoot HD video?

1. It won't.

2. Even if it did, none.

Unless you may program video in USER mode there is no direct provision for that in the MODE Dial. See photo.

A HD video 645D would probably end up in the same price segment as Hasselblad, or maybe even higher.

The main consequence on the business would probably be Pentax leaving the business for good.

We'll be lucky if we get 2FPS out of that sensor (typical is 1.5FPS out of medium format sensors). The video would be pretty choppy :-)

There's no way you could get a 645 sensor to do video...

Shutter speed and video frame rate aren't really related. The K-7 can do roughly 6-7 fps (I don't know the exact number) taking images but can do 30fps video.

Sure you could. The question is - who could afford one _today_?

You wrong, live view mode is in it base a video signal going from sensor to DLSR lcd. When you are shooting video on DLSR the mirror is up and shutter is open. The problem in video mod in 645D would be the amount of data, you would need a powerful CPU/GPU, a lot of RAM and huge HDD.
I think if the will be no video mode the solution would be to plug in a some sort of HD video capturing device via HDMI.

Methinks there are way too many people who misunderstand the 645 and what it is designed to do and who it is designed for.

Carry on.

No this is not the problem, K10D and K-m were not able to do video and live-view because of the CCD technology used, the K20D, K7 and K-x are CMOS and therefore able to do live-view.

All the sensors for MF are CCD and therefore don't allow for Live view. The 645D won't have live view. (Appart from a hudge surprise with Samsung or Sony making a CMOS MF sensor, but I doubt it)

Regards,
Guillaume

No you are wrong. There are a lot of camcorders which use CCD technology to shoot video.

And only half of the pixels are used for image capture, others just sit there and generate noise. (interline ccd)
Another option is to have sensor double the size of the area used to capture light. (frame transfer ccd)
MF i believe use full frame CCD*.

*CCD type, not a frame format.
