For 645: 55mm f/2.8: FA version?

Since acquiring the 35mm f/3.5 I've been feeling a gap between it and the 75mm standard lens I have. The 55mm is the perfect mid-point, I think.

But I don't want to buy the A version if I can find an FA version but my internet searches turn up nil. Did Pentax make an FA version of this lens??

No FA version of the 55. There is (or was?) a DFA version on some of the roadmaps.

The 55 never came in an FA version. There should be a D-FA version coming along with the 645D. However we still have to wait on whether it is a FA version or a new/different optical design.

I am still using a 20+ yrs old A55.

Thanks for the info, guys. This is a bit disappointing, since 55mm is basically the *start* of my need for good AF. I barely use it on the 35mm, even though it's fast and accurate. When the DOF already goes from your feet to infinity, why focus??

Guess I'll just settle on the cheaper A version. Not all bad news!

You might want to take a look at the FA 45-85mm f/4.5 - it is really outstanding. I have the A 55mm f/2.8, but find that the zoom gets used more so far. I too have the 35mm f/3.5 and the FA 75mm f/2.8.

If weight is a concern, then I would not consider the FA 45-85mm, it is a heavy lens and the A 55mm is nice and small.

Yuri - You're right. I will definitely re-consider the 45-85mm BUT when I used it last, the f/4.5 speed made it less useful than I'd like. The quality of the lens is right up there with the 35mm, though. Something about the new FA lenses gives them a great feeling on the slides....

Andy, that is in part why I still have both lenses (A 55mm and FA 45-85mm). Speed&size versus range&autofocus. It is tough, but I bought the A 55mm for a really silly low price and it was pristine so I am keeping it and the FA 45-85mm.

The FA 45-85 is f4.5 compare to the A55 at 2.8.

We do not have SR on the 645's. The extra stop is handy.
