Well the part is about $80 USD shipped. It is actually the entire rear lens assembly (Master Lens Rear Group) - two optical elements and other tubes, screws, etc.

The only problem is that it is not in stock and they need to order it - expected arrival 4 - 6 weeks time. My problem is that I have another week window in which to return the lens for a full refund.

Not sure what to do. The lens was a good price and other than the rear element problem it is in really amazing shape. I have also located a source for the OEM lens hood (it appears to be the same one that the FA 35mm uses).

Decisions...

Hood for FA 35mm

Thanks for the info on the lens hood being the same for the 33-55 and the FA 35. I just bought a FA 35 without a hood and was wondering what I was going to do for a hood. I should have looked on the chart I set up for all the lens and discovered that I don't need another hood.

http://www.120scan.us/p/eq/P645lens.html

In a few days I should have the A 35, FA 35 and FA 33-55. I will be posting a test in a couple of months after.

Why don't you call KEH and talk to them about having them fix it with the new rear element. I'm sure you can make some payment arrangements. If the rear element assembly is not available for whatever reason, then you can get your money back.

Hi Warren,

Wow, I currently have all three of those lenses you listed as well.

I found a source (Japan Exposures) for the PF-RBB82 for the FA35 and FA33-55. The price I was quoted was ¥4641 plus ¥1500 for shipping up to a few of these. I am likely ordering one (two if my contract gets renewed at the end of this month! - otherwise the job search begins again). Let me know if you find a US based supplier
or want to go in on an order of these.

Thanks for posting the 645 lens webpage - really helpful!

I placed an order for the rear lens assembly and also sourced a Pentax technician to replace the part.

Pentax USA Parts said that Pentax 645 is considered professional and they still stock the majority of the parts for the lenses.

Thanks for the suggestion Pål, as I had thought the part would be prohibitively expensive to replace.

This is a very comforting news to us all.

It is nice to know they stock or will order parts for the 645 lenses. I had no idea what the part number was, so they emailed me 'exploded' diagrams of that lens as well as the FA 35mm. I was hoping they would also show accessories, but it is strictly lens parts.

More opinions about the 33-55? any comparison-test against the FA 35?
Thanks,

Ramón

33-55 lens hood

Yurihuta thanks for the heads up on the lens hood. I found it as you said at Japan exposures. When I got the hood the box said Yodobashi ?sp? camera. Is Japan Exposures the international arm of Yodobashi? I'm very tempted to order a 645D.

Warren... it was definately good luck that you found the lens hood at Japan Exposures. When I needed this hood for for my 55-110 last year, Pentax USA said they couldn't get it. I eventually found one at KEH, but only after a long search.

That's interesting they will ship it from Japan. When I went looking for a 67 lens and couldn't find it used I saw it was available new on the Pentax of Japan's website. I called Pentax USA and asked if they would order it. "We can't", they said. When I asked why, I got a bogus only makes sense to them answer.

Umm - Maybe I should ask for subsidies for my next Asia trip in exchange for acting as a buyer?

Most Japanese retailers are ill equipped to deal with oversea sales in English and they are profitable without this additional business which could be quite a small percentage of their total.

Hi, Very sorry to dig up such an old thread, but I'm rather keen to find out if any more thoughts or comparisons have been done with the 33-55mm?

I'm debating between the FA 35mm and the 33-55mm..... (for 645Z body)

Any final thoughts or opinions are very welcome...

Again, sorry to dig up such an old thread
