Originally posted by barondla Finally decided to pick up an Arsat 30mm fisheye. Some of the landscape and other photos convinced me to take a chance on this Russian lens. It is far better optically than expected. Not HD 35 or DFA 55 levels, but darn decent at f8-11. It is even nicer made than the 16mm russian fisheyes I've used. Even the 645 adapter it shipped with fits nicely. Didn't realize it was an adapter at first. I'm happy.
Now to learn to defish images. Defishing reduces field of view. Would a defished 30mm match a 30mm rectilinear or is the penalty greater?
Thanks for looking,

I'm on my second Arsat 30. The first was a mount swap to 645 and the current one is adapted nicely too. Nicer than the mount swap which eventually fell apart. They are cheap enough I just bought another.
I think you do lose some mm's depending on how much you defish. Mine is usually making a wider image than my 35mm would make even post defish but I'm shooting landscape more so I might not need to apply as much as something with buildings in it. There is some loss but room to accommodate it in my experience.
