I am with Cartier-Bresson on sharpness. ("Sharpness is a bourgeois concept") I think too many people on forums obsess over it, over and above decent composition. Pixel Peeping is the bind of modern photography. The other aspect of forum "willy waving" is getting the fastest aperture lens possible and always shooting wide open without thought to the artistic application of it.

So why shoot top level digital medium format - surely an APSC system and kit lens would suffice.

I agree re the shooting wide open part - but having something nice and sharp and not blurry matters to me and my style of work. I wouldn't be in business if it didn't.

I'm not suggesting blurry images are acceptable, but there is an obsession with sharpness over and above every other aspect of a shot. There is more to a shot than just it being sharp.

Of course - and it is a given that at this level the photographers composition, subject and light as good as it can be.

These aren't beginner chump camera's but tools for highly skilled amateurs or working professionals. Therefore you'd just expect everything else to be good and when I saw the lens sample was like this, well lit, composed, focused, good subject, nice light but with that blurring you couldn't print this image other than a small size - which defeats buying a system/lens combo as expensive as this.

So - at this level -the performance of the equipment is of paramount of importance - because the people that use these camera's will be at the pinnacle of their photography.

Some ICM photography from me - taken in the Bluebell woods in Kinclaven. Others probably do this far better than me. I really enjoyed this but it's not my norm - a tbh a little bit of a waste of a medium format sensor.

ICM

Spinning in the woods

Blurred vision

A wiggle in the hands

Dumb question - do these old Fuji MF lenses adapt on to the GFX system or even mount on?

True enough, asserts kaseki, standing on a mole hill hoping to reach meerkat mound status.

Doubtful directly, but with an adaptor, certainly.

Thank you. I love the Pentax 67 75mm f 2.8 lens with its really short MFD which makes it great for flower closeups.
