From what I understand, neither the White or Black Rhinos will charge or attack unless there is a calf around, yet the Black Rhino has a very short fuse which makes it unpredictable. Many years ago I did a hike through a nature reserve and we crossed a shallow stream where a whole group of Black Rhinos were drinking water. Our game ranger looked very relaxed and we followed suit. I later asked him when he last used his rifle, he said many month ago. I happen to know that rifle and I also know that if you don't clean it every morning it will most like jam when you need it. On the way back I made sure to place him between me and the Rhinos.
