Round 2 of the Columbus Bar reshoot.
The backstory: Went to the bar and the neon sign was off. I walked in and the bartender said last call was a half hour ago. I explained I wanted to shoot the sign, so he turned it on for me. Went back out and started bracketing about 15 shots. A couple drunk gals walk up and say 'mister photoman can you take our picture?' so I did.
The technical: stack of 5 shots manually layered in Photochop. Times ranging from 1/30 to 5 seconds. F/5.6, ISO 100. 654z w/55mm

Very nice, plus a story to tell with it. Makes me think of "I shot the sheriff" song turned to "I shot the sign".

Really like the snow and ice shot. Don't see many winter photos and this is splendid.

In Australia you have really serious creepy crawlies though. I wouldn't mind a tilt at New Zealand but reading about the flies reminds me too much of here.

If you go to the Alps/Pyrenees in Europe it's remarkable. No midges, no nothing. I'll be taking the Z there this year.
You will have a lot of flies... if you are close to cows or sheeps in the mountains. But just normal flies

Columbus bar take 3
Shot last night as well but from the other side of the bar. Much happier with this one... more detail in the neon, colors more muted and subtle. No drunk girls. Stack of 5, 1/30-1 sec, f/6.3, ISO 100.

A pack of hyenas approached to see what a couple of lions were eating. This is a fairly dangerous activity for them, because the lions won't tolerate them near their feeding. This youngster separated from the rest of his pack, attempting a hidden approach using our vehicle as cover.

I saw these little birds going through the garden late yesterday afternoon. They are only about 10cm long and never sit still for long. I grabbed the camera with the A* 600mm lens and ran up to the top level of the house to get a little bit higher from where they were in the top of a jack-fruit tree. I got these two lucky shots partly out of focus. For the first time I could get a good look at the birds and could id them to be Japanese White Eyes.

Love the Zen like composition. Very oriental. The lens is sharp!
