Went hiking yesterday while it was still a bit cool and not too humid, since it was the day after we had a typhoon in the region dumping tons of water and high winds blowing away anything loose.

We tackled a mountain called Lantau Peak, at a mere 930m above sea level. Ok we cheated a bit and took a cable car to about 420m to a popular tourist attraction called the Big Buddha. From there it was straight up another 520m.

The top portion of the mountain was covered in thick cloud, which provided a nice cool off from the workout.

I only took pictures on the way down.

645z + DFA 55mm

#4 is of the Big Buddha in the distance.

Great shots! This is the island that used to be peaceful and is now home to the "new" airport, right?

That's right. Apart from the highway going to the airport and Disney cars are limited to designated taxis and local residents.

Most residents don't drive and use a very popular ferry service, which has a fast and a slow ferry, with an open bar at the ferry 'station' in HK Central. At night many locals load up on their alcohol need at the bar while waiting for the ferry, then take a round with them on the ferry. Many stories of guys falling asleep on the ferry and to wake up back at the starting point having slept through a round trip.

Thank you. I am a little shy about posting in this group because of the extremely high quality of the landscapes, star tracks, and other photography that is posted here. However, I suppose even these accomplished landscapists can stand to see a flower once in a while!

Some of these were bracketed so it will be fun to work some HDR images from those....645Z w either 45-85 zoom or 35 prime
You're learning quickly.. I love the blotchy sunlite (that is, sun and shadows).

New camera, lenses, etc.

My first (that I can remember!) post that's not a response to someone else's fotografic art.

Thursday the 14th I had a serious cataract removed from my right (dominant} eye.. Because I had one removed from my left, nondominant eye several years ago, I had some idea what to expect in changes in brightness and color balance, but these current changes, perhaps because it's my dominant eye, are HUGE. One result of these changes is that all the pics I look at seem to be a big overbright and a bit cool in color balance. but I suppose I'll get used to that.

After getting tired (again!) of my too-small-body Sony FF camera, this time my 2nd a7R4, I ordered a couple weeks ago a Fuji GFX 100S system, mostly from B&H but also several Pertax lenses thru eBay. The (used) body and Ptx 150-300 lens are arriving Monday; I already have Fuji 32-64 plus 23 and 30 primes, and Pentax 55/2.8 plus the 150-300 and 45-85 zooms..

I'm 77 and a bit feeble and can't easily handle heavy lenses and cameras, so the '100S system will be used almost exclusively on a tripod, while my Fuji X-T4 system will be my walkabout/backup system.

We'll see how this goes; I'm sure looking forward to it!

A few re-edits of elephants from a few years ago. I don't think I've posted these before. If I had, then my apologies.

One of the lessons I'm glad to have learned was to not delete raw files, even the ones I don't like. Revisiting these pictures at a later date brings a new approach and improved software and a different taste, which could be better or sometimes worse.

Accumulating a 'library' of large raw files does have its downsides, like the need for storage space, and off-location backups. But I have found a reasonably affordable solution that gives me some elbow room and hopefully with space for as long as I may be around.

I hope you enjoy these elephant images as much as I do, and as usual comments and criticism are all welcome.
