I just wanted to illustrate my findings in "real-life" picture-taking. While "pixel-peeping" (which I find boring and counterproductive), I found that this 645 FA 35 mm f/3.5 reaches its OPTIMUM resolution @ f/11. The aperture one uses depends on the final result you are looking for. I use wide-angle lenses mostly in vertical pictures on tripod, seeking to produce excellent near-far landscape pictures. After 55 years of picture-taking and having been influenced by landscapists such as Ansel Adams, Elliot Porter, David Muench, Jack Dykinga, Tim Fitzharris and the like, I often close my diaphragm to f/11 or smaller to gain acceptable depth-of-field. So, this lens is very well adapted to my style of imaging, producing its best results at precisely the aperture I most often use.

I too find pixel peeping boring. It's like going to see a Turner painting at the National Gallery and putting your nose so close to the painting that you risk getting paint on your nose. Horse for courses.

How much do you need to crop with that combo? Or do you just use the 35mm feature? Looks great.

A few pictures I re-edited and some from the bin from our trip to Iceland in 2017. Would love to do another trip there, perhaps not in December this time. I think October might be better, before the big freeze sets in.

#1: Ice sculptures on Diamond beach. From the lagoon at the toe of the glacier, small icebergs float out to sea on the tide, then storms and high winds blow some of the icebergs onto the beach, where the wind sculpts unique "art" by nature pieces. A sight to see Banksy active in nature. 645z + DFA 25mm

#2: The wind started to pick up, creating wind sprays as the waves crested. Definitely needs a re-do to better capture the drama. 645z + FA 80-160mm.

No cropping on that shot whatsoever. It does vignette a tiny bit when wide open. I was shocked at how well that combo works, and the 31mm is almost as good.

This morning the light was just right as the bees came foraging in our garden. I time-merged two pictures taken within seconds, each showing two bees with the final result showing four bees approaching the setting of hibiscus.

645z + FA* 300mm + #2 extension ring.


#1 - I like the simplicity of this composition. f/11 @ ISO 4500

#2 - The time-merged image mentioned above. f/11 @ ISO 6400

#3 - 100% crop of the top of #2 picture. The bees are loaded with pollen and are struggling to fly with their load of pollen and nectar. The center part of the flower is blown out and unfortunately I did not dial down the exposure bias to -1 or -0.5, which resulted in clipping the super white area of the flower in direct sunlight.

Same Findings for me! I use all three FA limited lenses with no cropping on the original Fujifilm 50s.

I have probably tried every 35mm Pentax lens I own (which is many) and, not surprisingly, there are definitely plenty that don't "work", but I was also surprised how many do. Pretty common for the corners to get soft and to have varying levels of vignette in corners... but sometimes you can even just embrace it... I have taken a few lovely images with the 15mm f3.5! Yeah the corners are black, but it almost starts to get the full fisheye look, except with less distortion in the circle.

Granted, it would probably be silly to only own the camera to adapt the 35mm lenses, but with native GF and, especially, Pentax 67 and 645 lenses, it is a lot of fun!

Plus, Fujifilm does a good job passing along lens focal length in EXIF data (if manually added by user) and, in the new models, you can even add lens names in camera and it passes the info through in the EXIF! I love Pentax, but I have also enjoyed using this camera along side (and with) my Pentax gear.

The longer the FL on the 35mm lens - probably the more useful it will be on the medium format. There's folk adapting big Nikon F and Canon L tele's on these things and getting good results.
