Your FA 35 mm f/3.5 seems to be as "sharp all over" as the copy I bought last summer. I don't know why some people keep bad-mouthing this lens, pretending it is beset with a curved plane of sharpness and always shows weak and soft corners. You must always try a lens in your usual picture-taking conditions and make your own opinion.

Best Regards, Theuns

I think it might come from a difference between "photographic use" and "photographic recording". (I made up these terms, and I hope it conveys the intent of what I'm trying to say). A slight curving and distortion might not be visible in normal photographic use. When taking a detailed picture of say a historical painting or high end architectural use, then the slightest distortion/curvature may be a bigger problem.

For my purposes I find the 35 mm a perfect lens, on par with the 28-45, just a much lighter load to carry.

Hi,

I understood. And, what Richard is using it for is what I would use it for.

I love that spot. It looks a lot like the Sacandaga where it meets the Hudson (and makes the Hudson a much larger stream) in the Adirondacks.

Definitely one of the more vibrant sunrises I've seen for quite awhile.

Hi,

That works!

Looks like half the clouds are on fire and the other half are smoke from the ones on fire.

And, another shot from a 100s that makes me want to hang my P645 lenses on one....

Expensive mistake being fixed. The print of the sunrise in Finland turned out to be slightly over saturated and the orange in the sky was so dominant that it messed up the whole color scheme in the living room, especially since it is next to the fire place which is also orange/yellow. So off it came and yesterday I spent the best part of the day re-calibrating my monitor and printer.

One of the issues I found was that my screen is too bright and needs to be set at 70% brightness with the XRite icm profile. Windows will change this to the HP-dreamcolor profile with brightness at 100% every time I do a Windows update or reboot.

Some time ago I wrote a script to start Bridge/Photoshop with limited CPU access, yes I am choking it, because if it uses all of the CPU power then you sometimes can't use the machine and not even the mouse while bridge is re-rendering the previews in the background. Regardless of the settings not to re-render the previews, it still takes over my machine.

Also annoying is that Adobe prefers to use the CPU instead of the GPU which means my CPU is used to the max while the GPU is idling at 5% or less. I still haven't been able to fix that, but instead learned to live with it.

So coming back to the screen brightness I changed the start script that limits the CPU for Adobe to also set the brightness to 70%, which helps a lot and I manually check the display color profile after a reboot.

After some more editing and toning down the colors, I got the picture right for the space (small sample prints helped) and now the large reprint is in progress (3m x 1m). Tomorrow I will stretch it on the frame and then hopefully all will be well.

Expensive lesson just to re-learn the basics, calibrate your screen and printer. Then if you print on canvas, the colors will be slightly more dull than on gloss paper. The price of this canvas makes your eyes water.

Words fail me. I'll settle for "just fantastic!"

I had to look up "Brecon." Thank you for the views of beautiful scenery in the midst of unpronounceable towns.

Mike that is a phenomenal picture. I can imagine the time invested in creating that, finding the location, clear skies to match the season to place the milky way, etc, etc. And of course a well executed opportunity. Thank you for sharing.
