The afternoon sun shining into the dining room was just perfect. The cats obliged to pose and the backlit pictures compelled me to get the camera.

645z + P67 M* 400mm @ f/8 this lens has fantastic bokeh.

The other Haystack Rock (funny story about that if anyone wants to hear it). Pentax 6x7, 55-100mm f/4.5, film is Portra 800.
Would love to hear the story!

So there is a famous Haystack Rock in Cannon Beach, Oregon, which I'd say most people in the state are familiar with. The Haystack Rock on Cannon Beach is close to shore, and during really low negative tides, you can get around to the back of the rock and go exploring a bit. I saw that one of these low tides was coming up, so I asked my wife to book us a hotel near Haystack Rock so we could make a little trip of it and I could get some unique points of view of a famous landmark. I didn't really pay much attention to which hotel she chose, I just trust her with these things. Well, about 3/4 of the way through the two hour drive, I noticed that we were taking a bit of a different route to the coast than normal. When we finally got to the hotel, nothing looked familiar. I finally had the good sense to look at a map, and realized we were in Pacific City, probably a 90 minute drive from Cannon Beach. I asked my wife why she chose someplace so far away, and she said Haystack Rock was a five minute drive. She showed me on Google Maps on her phone, and sure enough we were near A Haystack Rock, but not the one I had intended! I had no idea there was more than one Haystack Rock, and neither did my wife. She's lived in Oregon for over 25 years. It turns out after a bit of research that there are in fact at least three landmarks named Haystack Rock in Oregon: one in Cannon Beach (which is what most people think of when they refer to Haystack Rock), one off of Cape Kiwanda (the one we ended up at), and one near Coos Bay. The one near Cape Kiwanda is absolutely stunning, but it's a mile out to sea and there's no way you're going to get to the back of it without some kind of boat.

I'm sure there's a lesson here, but lord knows what it is.

that's impressive for nearly a second handheld with that size of camera. Once I considered myself lucky to get about a second with a point & shoot doing a waterfall (still had to run it through Topaz Sharpen)

Beautiful building indeed, sadly there's no angle (short of using a boat) to hide the building behind.

I wanted to check the P67 M* 400mm lens performance in doing a multipart panorama. My goal was to have a large printable image in great detail, which can be printed large without significant enlargement. I have done this before but with the 645 A* 600mm lens, but not with the 400mm.

I selected a sunset scene accross a local lake with woodlands on the opposite shore.

645z + P67 M* 400mm multipart panos.

#1 is a 3 part panel resulting in a +/- 80mpx vertical pano

#2 is a 20 part panel resulting in a +/- 300mpx horizontal pano with a total swing arc of about 40 degress from left to right in two rows.

#3 is a +/-100% crop from #2. I am quite happy with the detail.

Was the large amount of overlap driven by the pano software's needs for successful alignment, or to deal with the gradual change in lighting at sunset?
