Itshimitis, beautiful dog, that first shot is a really a keeper!

One dog photo deserves another, here's one I scanned tonight of our dog Torrie:

Dogs are good companions.

I had a trip into London today and after having a coffee at Paddington station, I decided to take a few photos down an empty platform. There were no trains on platforms 1 or 2 and it wasn't too busy. I initially tried without my tripod but shooting speeds were way too low, so I set up my tripod in a discrete spot away from the edge of the platform. After I had taken 3 shots I was approached by a member of Network Rail staff and told quite rudely: "You can't do that here!" I told him that Network Rail's own rules allowed non commercial photographs provided tripods weren't close to the platform edge and provided no flash is used. The guidelines also say that photos should be taken out of peak hours i.e after 1030am. As you will see in the photos, it was approaching midday. I got nowhere with the jobsworth and left the station, but I tweeted, mentioning network rail's twitter address and they apologised and said they would take it up with the station staff. Anyway here are the photos

I then made my way into central London, and found a discrete spot at Oxford Circus where I wanted to capture the sense of movement and busy nature of this area. I jammed myself up against a wall so as to not cause an obstruction.

All about the same settings:

I am always drawn to the South Bank - something to do with the Italian chain Strada! The river area is like a magnet for me.

Ishimitis, shame about getting hasseled like that. Strange what some folks have agianst photographers. I really enjoy your Oxford Street 2.2 photo and your Westminster 2 photo, they are beautiful and made me recall my visit to London a few years back, amazing city!

Fabian, my hat is off to you sir for traveling around Europe for 3 months with the 6x7 in tow! It is clear from the photos you've posted that your efforts were well rewarded.

Very first photos with my new 645D

Hi folks
Bought my Pentax 645D just a few days ago and had not much time to try it out since then. Today was the first day I could get off the office a little bit earlier. So I want to show you my very first "real" shots with this famous camera. Like to hear your feedback...

Crescent Sunrise - Kauai

On vacation in Kauai right now - I was scouting around the East part of the Island looking for pre-sunrise palm tree silhouette locations. I settled on this spot - and was pleasantly surprised to see a crescent moon was clearly visible in the pre-sunset sky.

Sweet shot in more ways than one. Now get back to Seattle and enjoy the melting snow.

Seattle Snow Mess

Thanks!

We fly home to Seattle on Monday - I think we timed our trip to warm climates perfectly - hopefully the mess will be melted and power restored by Monday night!

Hi Inorton, I do hope you post more vacation photos. Are you planning on going to Koke'e park?

Another 645D shot from Kauai

As requested, here's another shot from my 645D. This is shot from the 25mm f/4 of a Rainbow Eucalyptus, and is a blend of 3 shots for focus stacking to get sharp focus throughout the frame (the tripod was setup right against the tree trunk). We did get to the canyon, but only took my Sony 5N.

There is some purple fringing on the upper leaves that I'l work to address once I get home...
