In the South east of Austria at the moment in the city of klagenfurt on the banks of Wörthersee the warmest of the Alpine lakes (apparently it's 27 degrees in the water!) this is a view from close to my hotel across crops towards the Corinthian mountains:

A bit of fireworks from Independence Day in the wonderful little town of Elko Nevada.

From my trusty little 645Nii with the 80-160. Shot on Kodak Ektar 100.

Weather has now improved a great deal and temperatures in the mid 70's so nice and c comfortable. We took a drive today up two of the main mountain roads in the Kärnten area of Austria - The Goldeckaplenstrasse and Villach Alpenstrasse.

This is on our way back down the Goldeckalpenstrasse which goes up to 1900 metres (the temperature went from 24C to 9C) and the mountain road is just under 10 miles long.

This is a 3 landscape panoramic shot from one of the viewing platforms of the Villach Alpenstrasse at 1500m

Fantastic panorama. I was in Innsbruck a couple of years ago and this reminds me how beautiful it is. That must be one big file - a three-shot panorama with the 645D. I'm guessing around 70MP at full resolution?

Thank you. Before cropping down, it's 75mp. I often use a longer lens like the FA75 or FA120 to get lots of detail, but the viewing platform is made of metal with holes big enough for the tripod to go through, so had to do this one handheld.

Have been to Innsbruck earlier in the year and s[ent some time in the Austrian Tirol. Beautiful especially as we had lots of snow. We are in Kärnten at the moment in the south of the country close to the Italian and Slovenian borders.

Heading back to the UK from (mostly) sunny Austria will be daunting weathewise, but it's been a good few days. I have done several trips to Austria and have extended a few to see a bit more of the country and have found myself scheduling holidays there after. It's easy to see why as the scenery is very dramatic. We had another day in the hire car heading up mountain roads and I made a point of heading through Feldkirchen again as on the way through yesterday, I saw a shot in my mind's eye but by the time I had thought it out we had gone too far and the shot was gone. Even today we had gone past as there was no lay-by to stop in, so we turned back and parked in a driveway and this is the result:

Pentax 645D FA 33 - 55 at f/16 and 39mm 1/60 ISO 100

Today we headed up to the dam at the top of Malta almalpenstrasse. At a height of just under 2000m (6400 feet) while it was 26 degrees in the valley, it was 8 degrees here and there was snow on the tops of the mountains. There was a hotel exhibition and a restaurant with a boat shaped observation terrace.

I've been taking advantage of the sunny weather by wandering in the rare sunshine we are having at the moment. The downside photographically is that this means few clouds in the sky so little interest in the sky and high contrast which doesn't work well in colour. So I took photos with a view of converting them to black and white in Silver Efex Pro 2.

Over the Afan valley close to my house:

Pentax 645D FA 120 f/4 macro at f/11 1/125 ISO 160

Spent some time in Cardiff today where it was a glorious sunny day:

In London for a few days right before the olympics (the place will go into meltdown from 25th!) and while having lunch on Gloucester Road in South kensington, I noticed the planes fairly low and the position of the partial moon and thought it might make an interesting shot, so went back to my Kensington hotel and grabbed my 645D and my FA 400mm

How do you shoot at ISO 160 with the 645D?

In what sense? In the sense that I have it set low or getting an ISO of 160?

I set mine in the custom part of the menu with EV at 1/3 steps and ISO at 'as ev steps' so C is 1, 2. on the top two of the first screen of custom.

I do it so I don't have to increase ISO in full stops. I also have expanded ISO switched on.
