Winter sun in Bandon... a rare day... what a treat for the New Year!

Here to the south, in Del Mar near San Diego, the first hi-res scans from my 645N came back from North Coast Photo in Carlsbad, CA. Am very happy that the camera is working well. Below, a construction crane by the sea at sunset... a train at the old Del Mar station... and a sunlit tree.

Well this morning I got a package from Ffordes. They are normally very reliable and they had a DFA 25 f/4 advertised. It's about 40% off the value of the value of new. It arrived this morning and is actually the DA 25. Is this something I should be concerned about? Obviously I won't now be able to use it on my 645N which was something I would have liked to have been able to do. Does anyone know how they compare? Ffordes are a very reputable company and i have never had a problem with them before. i might just let them know that what they had it advertised on the website isn't what it is. It is in new condition, but then Ffordes advertised it at Mint - and in my experience their ratings underestimate the quality.

I would let them know they made a mistake, if their serious about their business they will appreciate the feedback.

My freshly developed Kodak 125 PX film, shot with my 645 and 120mm Macro lens. Developed in T-Max, scanned with my Epson V500

Heard from them within an hour of sending an email. They have said that they are happy for me to return it after testing it I'm in any way unhappy. Just done some shots with it close to the sea but conditions aren't great. I've bought a lot of gear from ffordes and while they do tend to be pricey their service is good. My first impressions are that its a beast of a lens.

Back from a trip down to the local beach with my 645D and the DA 25 f/4. My word it's a heavy lens, but it is definitely quality.

I think the difference is that the DA version has a larger hood that's not suitable for film (because it's larger than the digital sensor), so you might find black areas at the edge.

I have used Ffordes for a few years but recently I've had problems with them: their used descriptions are sometimes very wrong and they will not refund postage even when the error is theirs.

I haven't had any issues with them at all before this, and as the cast majority of my work is digital, I can live with the fact that it can be used only on my 645D. I find the description of condition to be pessimistic in my experience - it's always better than I think it would be. I prefer to buy in person, but they are tough to get to in person since they are north of Inverness. I suspect that my wife is grateful though I buy less this way!

Would this lens even cover the 645n's film, given that its designed for the 645d's smaller "film" or sensor? I'll be curious to hear your experiences.

The DFA will but the DA won't

From my understanding, the lens hood is the main difference between the 25mm DA and D FA...not sure if they are optically different or not. I guess the only way to know for sure is if you take a hack saw to the permanantly attached hood on the DA lens and then see if it still vignettes on a 645 film camera...anyone willing to give it a shot and let us know? :P
