itshimitis, dramatic picture of that lake/cloud scene! Here's a few with the 105/2.4 and Arista 100.

I thought that sure looks like where I live, & sure enough it is. Nice shots, filoxophy!

Yes, Please do!

Here is a shot from this last Saturday. We had some rain clouds in Huntington/Newport Beach area which worked out nicely as I was in needing to shoot a test roll though my newly CLA'ed P6x7 ( by eric and pentaxs.com) as well as try out my newly acquired Pentax Digital spot meter. Accurate shutter speeds and metering !

Here's an HDR from tonight near Clarksburg, CA.
Possibly the only HDR image I've ever seen done right. That is, doesn't look utterly artificial...

thanks. The subject was strongly backlit and impossible to render with a single exposure, so i had to throw the dice a bit here.

I invite you to visit my website (link below in my sig), as virtually ALL my images over the past year or so have been HDR's, most more subtle than this one. I think some people see only the really cartoony HDRs and get turned off by the technique, when in fact that is but a single way to use HDR. Thanks again for commenting.

Not impossible with a single exposure. I'd take that challenge on any day. The sun looks below the horizon.

i'm sorry if you felt i was issuing a challenge. Per my own standards, I was not interested in squeezing a single exposure when I had the advantage of using HDR. Sure, anybody can push the sliders and get something that works.

but, if you want to take a crack at it, let me know where to send the RAW.

I was being facetious. But on a more serious note, that scene is not much of a challenge for BW film doing highlight compression.

ok, got it. i find you a little hard to read sometimes,
Yes, i love how film renders highlights, wish there were a comparable effect from digital, but no.

You wouldn't be the first.

I really think more DR in digital is coming soon. We are starting to see signs of it now. That new MFD CMOS sensor that is advertising little DR drop from base ISO to ISO 6400 and that new RED Dragon video camera's sensor with its advertised 16+ stops of DR.

One thing I wish digital cameras would do on their histograms is give actual EV values. Something that is lost in modern photography is knowing what the actual light range in a scene is. And you also don't know that with a film camera's built in meter either but when you meter independently with a one-degree spot meter, you begin learn what the light range of many common situations are. And when we get to around 15 or 16 stops of real "photographers" DR (not engineering DR advertised by manufactures), HDR exposure blending should only be needed for special effects.

I've been in Seoul for a week, too busy to really get out and about unfortunately. This guy has been my translator for this week. I wondered what the 19mm equivalent FOV of my Pentax 645D and 25mm f/4 would do, but I like the results:

Pentax 645D DA 25 f/4 1/30, ISO 800
