The reds are maples and oaks. Those must be eastern species, as the native oaks don't really get colorful, they just turn brown.
The main local agriculture for the last 80 years has been pears, and some peaches. You might have run across a catalog for the Harry and David company? They are a big mail order fruit basket company. They are based in the valley here and have been since the 1930s. Unfortunately, there is more money in real estate, and more glamour in wineries, so every year a few more orchards are bulldozed and a winery or subdivision put in. The Rogue Valley is becoming a pretty good wine area, and there are quite a lot of vineyards now.
