Some from a slightly chilly evening in South Wales - Nash Point Lighthouse on the Heritage Coast

Pentax 645Z DFA 35 f/3.5, no filters...

1.

2.

3. A 17 minute exposure ensured a reasonable star trail and the assistance of a large moon to light the lighthouse...

Mike great work as usual. Question do you still find use for the 645D? I'm very close to re-adding one to go with my 654Z. Going through some of my D photos I find myself taken by the character the D has.
I had to sell it to help pay for the Z. I definitely can appreciate the character of the CCD however am loving having focus peaking on the Z which enables me to nail focus like I never could before.

FWIW you are getting great results from the Z, which is no surprise given your excellent work in the CCD past. However I do notice a distinct difference in tonality between the CCD work you have done and that produced with the Z. It could be PP influenced but I think the Z files look more natural in your hands. Wouldn't have thought this unless you'd bought the Z, but there it is. Hard to quantify but it is apparent to me. I think it's maybe the graduation between colours rather than colour accuracy that catches my eye. Agian all your work is excellent

thank you very much!
Too early for me to explain the difference, but i have been very satisfied with the processing of the Z files.

I should sell some photo equipment and use the funds to replace some windows and doors. Frost on a storm door, 645Z, 120mm FA (amazing lens, this image is still sharp at 300%):

The visual motif is a little hackneyed, of course, but I couldn't resist:

645Z plus 25mm f4 DA and B+W 10 stop ND:

645Z plus 28-45 f4.5 DA @ 29mm with Lee 2.5 stop ND:

Love these as a set of contrasting cool and warm tones.

Quit monkeying about in good light, Matt, and get cracking with those flashes and Acon flash triggers! Well, maybe not good light, as it's so contrasty. Well done taming it a bit.

Lol! The problem with those is not only the fiddling but I also need to coordinate with someone to be my subject. On the other hand the river is always here and ready!

hmmmm....maybe I should fly out....I'm kinda ugly but I'm no longer fat....

OTOH, we are about to get a big dump here in Baltimore, so maybe I'll stay. We don't get them often, which makes them extra special. Got the x-c gear out of the closet today to prep it. Bought some new boots to arrive tomorrow, maybe get some new poles....gotta secure one of the bindings which is loose tomorrow. Do I still have any glide wax? Man, it's been years....

So I think the river is the way to go. For me, I don't want HSS to shoot people or freeze action, but just to get a funky-spooky, un-natural effect, which non-photographers won't know what it is, just that something's off.

I like it for stuff like bike races or skateboarding although the effect is subtle it can make good fill. This time of year the light reflecting off the snow makes a pretty good fill too and it works at any shutter speed!

Have fun with your snowstorm! It's been storming on an off here all day. A little frustrating because I want to ski but I'm recovering from an injury and can't yet. Snow makes a lot of people here happy so it's fun to see everyone so giddy. Hopefully I'll be back on skis again soon! It also makes my yard (and the landscape) look great!
