These African wildlife shots are great. I was hoping someone would show medium format could do more things if one were patient enough. Even if these animals are on a preserve and accustomed to people you have shown the techniques required are not limited to the use of smaller cameras. Come to think of it, some Canikons with a grip and long lens are pretty close to the size of your equipment anyway.

My wife has a D810 and she did not have any advantage. As long as you have autofocus, it works. Haven't tried bird shots with a long lens yet, but I can see manual focus will be a disadvantage on those long 645 lenses. My most favorite lens was the 150-300 because of the zoom to recompose the shot from a fixed location.

Some shots were taken in the Timbavati where some animals cross over from the 'deep' Kruger and have not encountered many humans. This is an advantage because they seem indifferent and ignore you. Real wild elephants on the other hand are very distrusting of anything they don't recognize, including humans.

This elephant is part of a 'wild' herd that came out of the 'deep' Kruger. Our guide and pro photographer told us the small tusks is a phenomenon they see as the big tuskers are poached, the small tuskers start to dominate the gene pool.

The difference in behavior towards us from this herd compared with a resident herd was noticeable.
