I heard this dam was spilling an impressive amount of water which is unusual so tonight I decided to go check it out.

One more from last night with some swirling bubbles. Had to go HDR just to get detail in the sky.

A couple of pictures I recently took with the 645z and the 600mm A* lens with 1.4 TC

The aerial combat took place about 300 meters (yards) from me and I had to crop about 50%. It also put the 645z through its paces for dynamic range, because the shutter speed was 1/1000 and f13 to maximize sharpness. I used a gimbal on a not so sturdy tripod. Focus is manual which is a real challenge when it comes to tracking fast action birds in flight. With more practice I'm sure I can get better sharpness and perhaps with good luck I can get closer. From further bird tracking it seems to me the 1.4 TC is not of much help if the birds are closer than 50 meters, or so. The bird fills up the view and it becomes impossible to track flight action.

Jupiter and its four moons was a challenge. The 645z is obviously not designed for astro photography, but still great fun to swing that gimbal skyward at night. The crop factor faries in these pictures, and if I recall correctly is around 500%, or perhaps 600%. At f6.7 the lens is also not in its sweet spot, and I was surprized to see the clarity in the end result. I could not lower the shutter speed, because anything slower than 1/3" produced oval objects.

The moon was a bit easier to work with and I could increase the shutter speed substantially. I could also get the F stop closer to the sweet spot which I found to be upwards of f11.

This is a heavy crop of about 400% if I recall correctly. Infinity focus on the lens is a trick to learn but with the mechanical marker it is quite easy to return to infinity, once you have set it up.

That's incredible! Just worked out the math on shooting that on a 64 speed film, about 24 1/2 minutes. Crazy.
