Lovely stuff, MattB! Delightful conditions, beautifully photographed...

---------- Post added 01-18-19 at 07:35 PM ----------

I'm interested in everyone's views on this...

The first shot is one that I posted a few days ago of the scene from the Shard. The second one includes a sky that occurred earlier the same evening, composited onto the same scene.

Which do you prefer...?

Ed, I like the first one best. The red sky superimposed over a night scene certainly has artistic merit, but to me the sky looks out of place with the night scene and detracts attention from the city itself. Were you using the 35mm? The photograph is incredibly clear and sharp.

Wonderful Matt! The A-35 never disappoints, and you have captured the lacy beauty of this winter scene.

The second one looks unmistakably like a composite.

Deeper shadows in the first would look more dramatic and realistic, at least on my display (IMO).

Writing from the point of view of photography as a bearer of information, rather than as art: The first image, defined by the remarkable lighting, tells a story of the growth of the city from one's imagination of its state in historical periods. With accompanying descriptive material, it could illustrate a tract on the influence of the City on the development of the city. The second more obviously "arty" image seems foreboding, perhaps hinting at potential future consequences of an independent City [State] within the city. William I may not have made the best long-term choice, but we can't do a controlled experiment to find out.

For most purposes, I would prefer the first image.

A vote for #1, as the overall color sky to ground matches better. That dramatic sky in the second image would have had an impact on the ground, and it doesn't show---which is why it looks like a composite. If you want to try again, I'd work with the color temperature of the ground, possibly in a gradient from back to front.

I prefer the first one, the sky is too distracting and out of place compared to the 'fade to black' effect towards the top of the frame in the first one.

Nice winter scenes, Matt.

Workflow update of an old picture taken on Kodak's T-Max TMX 6052 generation of this film. It feels more like cubic grain film than the tabular 100TMX of today.

Admiralty Head Lighthouse, Whidbey Is, WA, with some convergence correction applied.
