I got it back together.
Somehow, all 4 rear mounting screws were torqued off, and the screws, brass contacts, aperture lever spring were disconnected and some items were loose inside the lens housing. I scooped up all the dirt at my feet and into a backpack. later, was able to retrieve all but the 4 mounting screws from the detritus.
I ordered screws on Amazon(larger ones, though) and then opened up another working lens to use as a model for re-assembling the 25mm. I had to bend back a damaged aperture lever and re-install the spring. I was a nervous wreck, but hated the idea of sending it away, especially since that lens is no longer supported.

After several sittings, i finally got it back together. Inspecting all of my lenses later, i found not even a single rear screw to be loose, even slightly, so i am still dubious that all 4 of these worked themselves loose gradually without my noticing it becoming jiggly. I seem to think in the dark, the lens got stuck on the camera and i torqued it too hard and unseated all four screws from the lens chassis. Then i tried attaching a different lens over the metal mount that was still affixed to the camera body. It was in complete darkness, but i think that is how it happened. The aperture lever got bent and the spring likely popped off at the same time.
I hate it when that happens!

Erm... Thanks for the compliment. As for references to spanking, maybe I won't say anything ;-)

Thanks mate. He is off the ventilator now, and may be discharged from intensive care after the weekend, but will most likely be in hospital for the remainder of the year.

So sorry to hear this. I was sort of wondering why you had been scarce lately. I'm sure I speak for everyone in wishing you and he the best.

Thanks. The reason for my lack of productivity is a much happier one with pitter patter of tiny feet and disturbed sleep. Where I do get out and about, I am having to choose a slightly lighter gear. My travel has also completely stopped because of COVID. I have been shooting mostly with the A7r4 when able...

645Z + A* 600 1/100 f7.1 320 ISO Flowers and Pollination

I was hiking around Powell Gardens in the Kansas City area and caught some bees pollinating!

One at my wider crop, one highlighting Mr. Bee. The 600 is a challenge to use, for sure, but I love working with this lens.

Lovely image. The 33-55 zoom is performing at a high level. Well done.

Definetly not an easy lens to use. Can't wait to see what you capture with it. Looking forward to more photos. Please post a pic of the 645Z mounted on the 600.

Thanks for sharing,

First the FA 33-55 mm f/4.5, now the FA 55-110 mm f/5.6. Similar excellent results.

How can you not like such a lens ?

Dad passed away right after the nurse in ICU said to come up yesterday morning. So we missed the last moments with him by the amount of time it takes to go up one floor in a lift. He wasn't alone when he went, he had the nurse with him. He wouldn't have wanted to have been in a "departure lounge" nursing home awaiting to die at some later date so it was probably for the best...
