Wonderful image Nightfly! What equatorial mount are you using? Looks like it is tracking very nicely.

Gary
Hi Gary, Thanks. I use my old Meade 8" Schmidt-Cassegrain with an equatorial fork mount. A Losmandy DA holds the camera on a D plate. Here is the setup with a 300mm Takumar.

Flanders Pond Observatory: The New 300mm SMC Takumar

A 12mm illuminated reticle eyepiece at the telescopes prime focus is used to ensure proper tracking. The mount is aligned to within an inch of its life, so I get zero field rotation, even in two hour long exposures.

Thanks again.

(Spent a summer in Bamfield in another life...really likes Tofino too!)
You know, that doesn't sound like a bad idea. I just came back from another trip to Cannon Beach with the same sort of shots as before. I'm looking for new turf. Is there any place to say in Tofino or do you need camp? It looks like a small town.

There are places
For hotel at a reasonable rate, I would recommend the Best Western Tin Wis it is right on the beach, managed by native local band and it provides great services.
There are also quite a few B&B.

I like Cox Beach, Florencia and Chesterman for photo.

Cheers,

Luc

Luc,
Don't forget the dramatic scenery on the road from Pt. Alberni to Tofino. I have memories of wild rivers and lakes and rugged mountains.

You might remember this spot just when you start coming down the pass toward Ucluelet:

Looks scenic indeed. How long is the drive from Victoria to Tofino?
