Thank you Tuco. Yes, window light, I am no stobist! Maybe one day after I've improved on my basics, I'll start experimenting with strobes. For now there is so much to learn and explore with natural light.

Doug
Using a window like you did and a simple reflector for fill can make for some nice lighting without a lot of gear.

Awesome pic itshimitis! I love how crisp the wet road looks!
Thanks. Much of the week has been a washout. Ironically it's fine today but I have flights to catch to Asia

Love it! The light, the storm well caught and dramatic, the right moment for the wave, plus the seagull weathering it out... great!

Thanks. What makes the picture so unusual is that this is the bay (normally calm) not the ocean!
Thanks again for the kind words

I was in Beijing for a few days with a few colleagues:

Here is one of my colleagues who I have worked with for a few years

Pentax 645D FA 120 f/4 at f/6.7 1/100 ISO 500

and same shot converted in Silver efex pro2

The first night we arrived, we took a trip to Tianemen square and then went to a Peking Duck restaurant. Thsi young boy had been pointing his toy gun at us so I grabbed a shot of him with his torch:

Pentax 645D FA 120 f/6.7 1/100 ISO 500 with Pentax AF-540FGZ flash

A few taken from my hotel room in Beijing on the final night. The moon was quite a dark orange and I didn't change the auto white balance as changing for Tungsten would have made it white which because of pollution levels being higher that night reflected the streetlights would have been inaccurate

Pentax 645D FA 400 f/5.6 0.6 secs

Two more, which are slightly experimental as I tilted the camera to get a shot where the road ran diagonally through the shot:

Pentax 645D FA 120 at f/8 , 10 seconds, and 15 seconds respectively

I like the diagonal road concept. Could make some interesting sort of abstracts that way.

At the back of our house is a small forest, and some of the trees have lots of squirrels in who seem to enjoy teasing our dog, Caesar. He's a nosey dog at the best of times but does enjoy watching the squirrels.

Pentax 645D FA 120 f/6.7 1/20

pentax 645D FA 75 f/8 1/100 With Pentax AF 540FGZ

Pentax 645D FA 75 f/8 1/100 with flash

same settings:

itshimitis, beautiful Shepherd. Our family once had a whiter German Shepherd. He was a beautiful dog. My wife and I now have a Newfoundland. You were right to get Caesar, it is really hard to photograph black dogs.

Itshimitis, beautiful dog, that first shot is a really a keeper!

One dog photo deserves another, here's one I scanned tonight of our dog Torrie:
