Pentax 645D with 80-160mm FA at 80mm. F/22, three images combined in Photomatix Pro "Fusion" setting, with modifications on the sliders. I think they were all bracketed around a 1/2 sec exposure.

I totally agree. And used MF film stuff is so cheap now.
Just a nit pick, but you don't need to move all the way up to the ETRsi and SQai to used metered prisms. Both the ETRs and SQ-a work fine with metered prisms.
, the etrs came with the original variant as an option. Odds are though an ERTSi or an SQai has seen less use than the ETRs or SQa by virtue of later production. there are exceptions to the rule though someone on BUG recently got an S2 that was like new that his aunt had used. the S2 went out of production in 1969 when the S2a came out. Odds are though that the majority saw a fair bit of use as a wedding tool.

There is also the much more user friendly RF645 to consider, absolutely stunning little walkabout camera (I passed up on a near perfect one with all 3 lenses and the flash that belonged to Oscar Peterson for $900 and have been kicking myself ever since

Typical 645D excellence when in the right Hands..., BTW Ryan have you thought of the D800E+Zeiss 21mm combo to complement your Pentax system?
Also, the Zeiss 21mm is not as wide as the Pentax 25mm. The Zeiss 18mm comes closest.

80-160

Ryan, i just love how sharp and contrasty my 80-160 at the short end 80-100, i did few tests and its always at its best in that range

I love that end of the lens as well, I ended up using it quite a bit for some multi shot panos on my last trip --all the images ended up really sharp.

Now to be honest, not all of that 'sharp contrast' is due to the lens...PS deserves a little credit here as well

Did a little experimenting with night exposures using the 645D...my verdict is that if you're serious about night photography, i.e. star trails, really long exposures, then you're better off with one of the 35mm DSLR's, though in a pinch the 645D can be workable. First, you have to factor in that however long your exposure is, you will also be doing a dark frame immediately afterwards, whether you like it or not. So...by the end of a long day of shooting I only had the stamina for one 30 min exposure, then left the camera on and went to sleep for the night! I was pleasantly surprised by the results in the AM when I took a peek. LOTS of noise, which I was able to mostly correct in PS, plus some other spots that came from who knows where...I cloned those out.

Pentax 645D, 35mm A, approx 30 min exposure, ISO 800, f/3.5

In hindsight I could have gotten away with ISO 400, as this image was a bit overexposed. Hopefully, it would have been a little bit less noisy and had a little better clarity, though I realize much of that noise was due to the CCD sensor and long exposure.

well .... the better the lens+Sensor the less stress to the image in PS, but still software sometimes do flip the game, such as Stitching, if it wasn't there DMF cameras would have no competition when it comes to large images game, and wide film cameras like the 16X9.

It is interesting what non-celestial things streak across the sky during the night with long exposures.

These are some of my first (amateur) attempts at macro photography using the FA120. I'm trying to get used to the paper-thin depth of field, among other issues. These are all shot handheld at ISO 400, f/20. Even at F/20 the plane of focus is minute. My post processing skills are also not the best (caveat).

I think you need to consider using a tripod as long as you don't also have wind to contend with. It looks like you were also shooting in the middle of the day as the light is quite harsh.

You're right though, Macro is difficult to do with slightness of the DOF, even more so with medium format. You just need to try and use the DoF creatively. Alternatively you could try focus stacking.
