Back to the photos.

Taken in late April when the summer Milky Way is in the early morning sky. Captured during the work week no less. Pentax 67 with 165 f/2.8 @ f/4.8 and Kodak E200 transparency pushed +1.5 stops. Exposure was 35 minutes under the dark skies of my home in East Sullivan, Maine. Tracking was done with an equatorial mounted telescope with camera mounted piggyback.

This image features the Milky Way of Sagittarius and southern Ophiuchus. The star clouds in the region are the best in the sky and are plainly visible to the unaided eye. Dark skies are a must to accomplish such a photograph without expensive filters. The prowess of film photography is still there, it just has to be harnessed.

Thanks for looking.

Once again your wide-field astro photography is out of this world. Most excellent. If I look at it too long and ponder the depth of space, infinity starts to be incomprehensible and boggling.

As always, thank you. I still surprise myself with how good the end product results. The difficulty of using traditional methods is overcome when the results are superior aestheticly to more modern methods.

I am currently working on a new set of B&W images using Acros. Preliminary results last year were promising, now I just have to try to stay awake on what are the shortest and latest nights of the year. Difficult for sure as I only have a little over three hours of true darkness, but that is where the gold is!

Thanks again and also thank you aurele

I find that evaluating a negative as a positive on the monitor is much easier than peering at a 35mm neg or a contact sheet. Plus with the cost of printing paper I'd rather use it for enlargements rather than contact sheets. Of course this is my method, your mileage may vary.
Thanks for sharing this (and thanks to Tuco too). Yes, I do intend to keep on scanning for selection, but I would hope to avoid buying a printer I won't use often enough (with the associated risks for the inks) for enlargements.
Perhaps two factors come into play: I work all day behind a computer as an academic, so I'm not too keen to add to these hours for my photography, and second, I never had a dark room (so always shot slides), hence it seems attractive, more so than photoshopping.
However, I do have to work out how to create a proper room, since renovating our home already exhausted our budget and having water available might just be too much for the time being (space enough though, just not with a basin).

Anyway, developing film is about time. I got some colour film back with some sort of staining on it, I hope I can rewash the film and remove it, but it stimulates me to develop B&W and C-41 myself in future.

Who made and verbalized that assessment? The bear or you....LOL! Great shot and I can imagine the patience required to work with that lens in capturing a shot like this. Nice going!

Haven't posted anything in a while but I have been enjoying everyone's photos in the interim.

Fuji GA645zi, this is my small and light camera, great for travel or just keeping in the center consul of the car:

This was shot hand held with the expectation that I would stitch it into one image later but I think I prefer it as 3 panels even though they are not even and there is overlap. Kodak Portra 400.

Slightly different landscape and climate fuji GA645zi Fuji Velvia 50

Outside Ripton, Vermont P67 45mm f4 Fuji Velvia 50

Arts Center, Middleburry College, Vermont P67 45mm f4 Fuji Acros 100

Spring comes late here in Maine. P67 105mm f2.4 with an extension tube Fuji Provia 400X

Torrie P67 105mm f2.5 (man, I love this lens) Tmax 400

Thanks for looking!

Thanks DandA. The bear came over shortly after this frame and inspected the lens with her muddy paws. I was far away by then...........

Really nice series. The three-panel shot works for me.

The receding waves in #5 makes for a a pretty dreamy shot with that Velvia color.
