Great shot. Quite a lens huh? What head did you use? And f8? I think f9.5 would be minimum stop with the converter on. I just got a wimberley mark one head but the 800mm tripod foot is too large to fit the head so i am delayed while making a riser plate. Very excited to stop using manfrotto video head.

Got the 800mm yesteday, also i just tried it quickly, and was at f/8 + TC on this shot.
Quite impressed nevertheless : here is a 100% crop (take into account the shooting speed at 1/100s and no MLU used) :



I am using Gitzo Basalt GT2931EX (not any more for sale) and Manfrotto 468MG head at the moment.
I am affraid i will have to get the Really Right Stuff Gimbal PG-02 arms as i use already RRS equipments : have you feedback on it ?

i setup a photobooth for a bar mitzvah and printed this out on 4x6 and they came out fantastic.. i was the star of the party more than the dj or dancers lol..

pentax 645D w/ FA35

I'm still struggling to fall in like with my newly acquired Pentax 67 system. The clunkiness aside (I can get used to that), the resulting images seem to lack the "wow factor" I experienced when I went from 35mm to my 645. At this point, I am much preferring my Pentax 645n system over the Pentax 67, but I am hoping my 67 optimism will pick up once we get some decent weather conducive to outdoor shooting.

Here is one of my first shots with the 67. I took this picture of my wife this morning when she was looking outside to see how much snow fell last night. Shot with Pentax 67, SMC Pentax 67 55mm f/4 lens, and Ilford HP5 (used semi-stand development in Adonal).

T. Long- You will not see that dramatic difference you experienced between 35mm and 645. If you make a 24 X 30 inch print with the 645 and 67, that's where the real difference is. It took me awhile to actually surpass the quality of my 35mm shooting when I switched to 6x7. There is a learning curve.

Thomas, a good start... I like the tonality... and congrats on the P67. My preference is just the opposite, perhaps it's a matter of familiarity over time... I had the 67 before there was a P645 and got to like its handling. When I later got a 645NII kit, it just didn't feel right... I didn't like the shape or handling, and still prefer the 67. Indeed it was this 645 experience that lowered my interest in the 645D. So you may come to like the P67 as you get more familiar with it... or maybe not!

I sense the 67 is very much a field camera, so I will hold off judgment until it warms up and I can try it out of doors (and with more available light).

My primary concern at the moment is whether it is focusing properly. I focused on the mesh material my wife was wearing, but it looks like the point of focus turned out being a little short of that (like about 20 cm or so). I'm wondering if I should send it off to Eric. *sigh*

Thank you - my schooling / experience is in photojournalism, so the 645 feels so right for me. But I am not giving up yet on the 67!

Thank you. It's always a little bit challenging to find the right exposure. If it's too long, people morph into gosty shadows, if it' to fast, people seems just "not sharp".
