Beautiful iconic image Mike.

Yep, the 80-160 looks like a great lens.

I'd like to see some portraits with it too.

Nice Mike and yes that lens is a bit of a sleeper I think. I used mine in Mexico last week and was a perfect filler for me between a 35 and 400.

This morning, I found out this pic is included in flickr explore, although I have no idea how it is selected.
I also know that my pic don't follow advises of "how to get on flickr explore", so I now believe flickr explore is a randomized lottery system...
whatever the reason, this is now my most viewed picture! LOL
Well done. I think you have better shots than this, to be honest, but it certainly has some nice light.

Eplore is based on an algorithm. All I know about it is that photos are more likely to be selected if they have a high number of views and are in a low number of groups, but aside from that it's very random.

Tell me about it - got (probably) my first shot on Explore a few days ago. I didn't even really like the photo! Anyway, this is from a 67, a bit overexposed:

This one's from the same set, and nicer (IMHO):

I've been using the Android LightMeter app along with a grey card for day shots, and guesswork and counting in Bulb mode for the night ones. I've only just started to develop and scan shots I've been taking since the summer, so hopefully will progress a bit with this thing.

I may try this weekend with a portrait to see what it can do. I had written it off because it isn't a fast lens, but we'll see. thanks

good to hear. I did find the lens creep a little off putting. Not sure if that is a problem across the board or just my copy. I aimed up at something, it slowly drifts OOF.

I know what you mean! the flickr explore thing is strange....

btw, the 'flare' on your first pic doesn't look very 'pleasing' (flare in film is normally very pleasing), or film like, you might have a not-so-good filter on? just curious...

Nope, no filter. I use a yellow filter when shooting b&w, but nothing when doing colour (except possibly a polariser, which I didn't use here). This is just a naked 105mm f/2.4. I've got another couple of shots with lens flare, and they're not great at all - I've one more where it was deliberate, and I haven't scanned yet, so I'll post an update if that one worked out.
