Hopefully will have time this week to shoot my new 645z. Grab a few quick snaps last night while on the way to a job, but didn't have a tripod, so I bumped up the ISO to 6400. (got home and was shocked at how fine the noise was).

that noise is more than acceptable - about as bad as say neopan 400 film grain, but at 4 stops more speed

I know for my D800 I can select a camera profile instead of the presets and its a much nicer way to get the color rendering of those films but without the digital grain the presets try to add in that sometimes looks like crap.

It doesn't I'm afraid but despite that I appear to be on a rocky road to ruin as I march inexorably towards the next pack!! I really like the way that the final set of presets for VSCO allows me to deepen the blues or greens or whatever so it allows a degree of customization. Additionally, the effect of pretty much all of the films can be toned down or up.

The high ISO shots do remind me more of a "film grain" then noise. Kinda of has that grain characteristic that Im used to when shooting with my RZ67 using Portra 400 (rated @200). Of course id never dare shoot Portra 400 @ 6400...lol.

i used Portra 400 @3200 ISO (+3 stops) for some sports competitions.
There is some color shift in the yellow or mageta spectrum, but the result ils quite good. Grainy, but noise free.
I have no fear to use it if the subject is properly exposed.

You're going to get that a lot... whether shooting at low or high ISO there is always some aspect to be impressed with, be it DR or noise quality. ISO12,800 is very much usable.

thanks! I only shoot with tripod so the weight isn't an issue.
