4. Checked in to the hotel and grabbed my large tripod from my suitcase and headed straight out while there was still some light in the sky...

You should definitely do that. It's a nice camera to use and capable of great results. Having said that, the bottom portion of one of those photos I posted is pretty bad. I think I took it wide open. I've never noticed that before.
