What software do you use for merging the focus stacks?
thanks. I open them in Photoshop and choose FILE>Scripts>Load files into Stack...
then add open files and click the "auto align" <-- very important since the FOV has shifted with change in focus
After that, in the layers window, i select all the layers i want to blend and click EDIT>Auto Blend Layers
click the Stack choice and check the seamless tones box
PS does a decent job blending but occasionally i get some out of focus areas. If i want to be very sure to get a good blend, i create a simple mask for each layer, blocking out the large areas i know are OOF in each layer; that way PS will only work with the portion of the layer I designate.
Hope that makes sense. It sounds way more complicated than it is.
I have helicon focus, zerene stacker and star staxx for similar work, but when Photoshop gets it right, i prefer using it instead.
