Thanks for all the comments!
I'm pretty fortunate that this scenery is all around me and I can get these shots in while the dog runs around for a while and eats some cow poop.
I find the comparisons of my shots to paintings interesting because I was a watercolorist in college and started into landscape photography as studies for future paintings. So I'm composing as I would compose a painting.

A few more from last week's trip. A few different looks at the same rocks.

Interesting background Matt. The classic fundamentals of artistic composition never changed.
Definitely not! Everyone should study some classical art. Lots to learn about composition and light!

The forum is behaving very strangely at the moment. I logged on earlier and it said that there were 15 new posts on subscribed threads and now, Matt see From1980's post before he made it!

I've had some news on the lens still don't know when it's arriving, but the repair has been reduced in cost from £800 to £400, and they have sent a loaner lens to my local dealer. Since I am in Germany on a very intensive work trip where I've not managed to fit in a lot of photography travelling to a different city every day, I cannot pick this up yet...

That line only works for those without knowledge. Very nice.
