Gavin, what a wonderful splash of colors in that vineyard! Beautiful wedding photos.

Here's one from yesterday morning in Marin:

From Hawk Hill
645Z & FA 150/2.8 4-frame pano
That's an odd foreground effect. Is it an underwater structure?

the lights on the bridge deck cast shadows of the railing detail onto the water, causing that effect. Sometimes it is barely visible, sometimes very pronounced.

here's an older shot showing that:

Does anyone know what the differences would be between the M* and a SMC 67 300/4?
you might check with blackcloudbrew. Whichever version of the 67 300 he has is also a very good choice. I shot one pic with his once before i found my M* and was knocked out by the performance.

here's that pic from blackcloud's (Tim) lens:

yes, that's the pedestrian railing from the bridge deck, projected onto the ocean.

The older 300mm used 5 elements, consisting of an APO triplet up front, followed by a weak positive element, then a negative field flattener at the rear. It did not use ultra low dispersion glass as the EDIF version did, so will fringe wide open on occasion. Fringing is rare with this lens though. It is a fairly sharp lens but is hampered by its lack of tripod mount. The ED version is both sharper and has better color correction in the marginal zone of the lens (can be shot wide open). Contrast is better with the ED 300. I have owned both for years but finally sold the old one.

I bought the SMC on eBay a couple of months ago and it's been great although I'd agree with all your minus points. I have seen a little fringe and have longed for a tripod collar but I'm mostly shooting landscapes stopped way down and the 645D is beefy enough that it's relatively manageable without the collar. So it does the trick. If I saw a good enough deal on a M* I'd probably trade up.

Out by the lake in a different spot this evening. It was cold and windy with snow squalls! Decent light was fleeting too but I had the place to myself!

Really nice. This was one of the shots that put me on the lookout for a 67 300mm.

That's a loooong way from Santa Monica! Not exactly a tourism magnet either.

Wonderful city to photograph though, if you like urban decay.

A set of 3 panoramas with 6 vertical shots taken within 20 minutes yesterday. All with the 28-45mm. Weather Sealing is such a benefit at times like these. It was very windy and the results could have been better but a series from snowing to sunshine seemed fun. This is taken looking back west from the devils staircase pathway Glencoe-Kinlochleven.

Snowing

Snow receding

Sun out again
